Pumpkin Disposal

To celebrate Circular Economy Month the City of St. John’s is holding a compost giveaway every Saturday in October.

Properly dispose of your pumpkin after Halloween – not in the garbage!

Pumpkins are between 80% and 90% water, are easily compostable and contain many nutrients that are great for your lawn or garden. Before composting pumpkins remove any light sources or non-organic decorations first.

Compost your pumpkin:

  • Put in a paper yard waste bag and place at the curb on your recycling day.
  • In your backyard compost bin
  • Directly on your lawn or in your garden
